By the end of the semester, students will be able to:

 

  • demonstrate knowledge of basic terms, theories, and methodologies associated with Gender and Women’s Studies and Popular Culture

 

  • identify dominant narratives and systems of power related to representations of gender, sexuality, race, class in media and popular culture

 

  • critically and rhetorically analyze representations of gender, sexuality, race, and class to explain how and why certain representations are common, desirable, and repeated in our culture

 

  • understand your own position and identity in relation to theories of gender, sex, sexuality, race, and class
